Making Affordable Assisted Living a Reality
The residential environment offered by assisted living facilities is often preferred by seniors who can no longer live on their own, but the cost of assisted living puts the option out of reach for many people. This article examines how advocates and developers can work with state and local governments to make assisted living affordable.

Perspectives
Governor Mike Huckabee discusses how the State of Arkansas was able to find the right blend of funding and program coordination to make assisted living an affordable option for its lower-income residents.

Key Findings from a Roundtable on Affordable Assisted Living
Earlier this year the Fannie Mae Foundation joined with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Volunteers of America to sponsor a roundtable to gain a better understanding of the current crisis in affordable assisted living. Key findings include strategies for making affordable assisted living a reality.

Insight
Affluent seniors frequently choose a more residential, independent living environment—some advocates are working to give lower-income seniors the same options.
